this is not an important suggestion, only an idea on how to make really cpu light misiles, have them be a single vector (a point with direction and speed) and have a cylinder (it may be flat on the end due to no friction in spaaace) on one end and have the exhaust on the other, i doesent even have to be a 3d model, at a distance it could be a 2d image that never has its edge towards you. you dont need a hitbox or any advanced things on the missile, it explodes when the point (vector thing) hits something.
i am a huge fan of missiles and would love to see some mean rocket action, guided or unguided.

Re: a way to make shitloads of missiles
Regarding missiles, perhaps we could have guided ones that sacrifice damage for tracking ability (and thus are more geared towards taking down fighters and small freighters) as well as unguided ones that have a larger payload (being more suitable for anti-cap and anti-transport roles)?

Re: A Way to Make Loads of Missiles
Ravener, this is already how all weapon collisions - including missiles, beams, and pulses - are calculated, so they are all already quite cheap.
