This is one of the most useless aesthetic yet extreme atmosphere (epicening?) effects that should (could? would? may be? i dont know here.) be implemented.
chatter. the faint radiochatter in between fighters as they deploy, the radiotower exchanging info with a freighter passing by and of course the willyscream as pilots perrish, all fuzzy walkytalky sounding. my english sucks, i know. of course important stuff should be very clear with a slight background noise, if not just text.
all of this should of course be pre-recorded and there is no reason to do this overly complicated, if you dont want procedurally generated voices of cource and go thrugh a filter that makes it fuzzy so the fuzz stays at the same pich.
go for the first option josh, dont kill yourself...
btw docking in a docking bay should drastically increase the amount of chatter.
if chatter has a point of origin they should be lower as you increase the distance.
