damage detail and affecting gameplay

Might have been already brought up, so I am sorry for double-posting if so :)

I am thinking about the damage system, because I would like to see a gameplay affecting damage system, so that you are not just shooting your lasers onto the ship, until the healthbar drops and the enemy explodes, of course that may happen if enough overall damage has been applied.
But I would love to see:
1) that you are able to take out sub-systems, making the ship slower, by taking out engines, or single weapons, etc.

2) I really would love to see also some detail in the damaged ships, like shot through parts of it, maybe affecting the weight of the ship, or if you have a system of thrusters, changing the turning speed and maneuverability, all of that

Just some thoughts :)
