This Kickstarter project has come to my attention and I couldn't resist giving it my backing. It's all about that superb game called Elite.
The kickstarter can be found here
If you are a fan of the game your collection will be incomplete without the addition of this fine publication.
Edit: Over a third of the way to the target and 44 days to go.

Re: The Elite Archives Book : A 30 Year History of Elite
I am of course already backing this one but give it a look if you played Elite, Frontier or First Encounters.

I would have been disappointed if you weren't, Philip. I spotted you in the comments section along with many "faces" that were very familiar.Philip Coutts wrote:I am of course already backing this one but give it a look if you played Elite, Frontier or First Encounters.

Have I just effectively bumped this thread? I can't say it won't happen again.
I could add that there are some new tiers available for anyone interested in taking a look.

This one is now past a third funded . It's a look back at some of the most awe inspiring space games ever, you need this in your life*
* You probably really technically don't need this in your life but it will be very nice

I've given it some thought, Philip, and I think it is a need for the collector. I'm just rather surprised that Frontier Devs didn't have the ideas first. It's a brilliant way to celebrate thirty years of Elite.Philip Coutts wrote:You probably really technically don't need this in your life but it will be very nice

I'm probably a bit daft... but what's the difference between the penultimate edition and the regular PDF ?

Re: The Elite Archives Book : A 30 Year History of Elite
The penultimate one is basically an "early access" as far as I can tell. You get to proof read the pdf before it becomes the final published copy. I might be wrong with that, but that's the impression I get.Katorone wrote:I'm probably a bit daft... but what's the difference between the penultimate edition and the regular PDF ?

Re: The Elite Archives Book : A 30 Year History of Elite
I don't get it.
There are thousands of players who claim that Elite is their favourite space sim. Elite Dangerous pulled in thousands of KS backers yet a book as important as this has attracted only 113 backers so far and appears to be struggling to cross the half way funded line.
If I could only have one book which was Elite related this is the one I would choose. It's certainly more important than any novel.

You know, Vic, books are not so trendy as some people hope. Explosions and packed action in a screen is. So there you go. It's a shame but things are like this in this times...

Oh well, at least my passion for vinyl records is making a comeback with the youth of today.
Thanks for replying to my post.

I do understand the world as it is nowadays, Lum, but at times I find the truth to be rather sad and a little depressing.Lum wrote:You know, Vic, books are not so trendy as some people hope. Vynils are cool retrothings now, I believe. DJs have something to do with that.

Re: The Elite Archives Book : A 30 Year History of Elite
I agree Victor, I love a nice well presented book. Can't beat it and I have nothing against Kindles or the like but it's just not as good. I am surprised at the lack of interest, there is a thread on the Elite Dangerous boards about this and it has attracted very little interest.
I guess this one is just not meant to be. I guess they are maybe just asking too much for the book?
Edit:
I just checked the thread on the ED Forum, it's only got 26 replies (of which about 3 0r 4 are me ) but does have 1663 views. Sadly these are not transferring to people backing and given the amount of people registered on the ED forums it's pretty low.

Re: The Elite Archives Book : A 30 Year History of Elite
As someone who's vaguely interested, I think it's too expensive.
I would pledge for the basic pdf level if it was 3/4th, perhaps half the price of what it is now.
