Here's a quick sandbox mode mockup of my current liquefaction refinery plans.. I'm thinking just plop it unapologetically on the center of a coal patch and cut out the third train with its silly long-handed coal unloading.
(One of my challenge stipulations is to have factory storage, both of liquids and non-liquids, entirely the domain of wagons. No storage tanks. No unnecessary pipes. Boxes, used only at 'tween-train transfer stations, will only be a seconds-long stepping stone for inventory.. I've decided that after launching my first ever rocket for the logistic network embargo achievement, I'll convert transfer stations to use bots since it'll both be more fun visually and faster than inserters, and won't compromise the theme of the factory.)

My latest designs for Furnaces.
Quickly and easily upgradable.

Tillable horizontally as well as vertically.
When using powered furnaces you get four entire lines of ore input. PER SIDE.
