Today's preliminary stream has been a blast. I hope this GMT evening window is going to be fine for most of you, it suits me pretty well, but do share your opinions. I'm going to create Twitch VoDs for those with weaker connections and no time to pop in, so you can still see your technicolor characters bumbling about and missing 98%s! You can catch up here, I turned on recording halfway on, sorry about that.

The Character Pool is complete, and you all are going to be in the campaign as big damn heroes. I'll try not to wipe, that would be sad. The seven who made it to the Pool (for now, you can still apply if you promise you'll watch :D) can be seen here, but images themselves give them no justice - the voice packs and attitudes are also hilarious.
Image See you at Operation Gatecrasher, rookies!

I presume you have the latest DLC and a ton of mods? :P
Only a couple of mods, and Anarchy's Edgelords too, yes :D It's hilarious. Might not have an XCOM vibe and all that fancy organized soldiering, but damn it looks funny.

First few operations successful! We made it quite some ways after some initial messing around with configs and getting pool characters into the game. We rushed mag pretty quick and have facilities going well, though our income is terrible, as I keep spending it on stupid things like Cornflakes. Plus we're not expanding well yet. Now we just have to buy mag, research good armor, and start training psi soldiers in the shiny new lab!

Talv, Flakes, and Dino made to a satisfactory rank, while I'm going to buy Duck and Silver to be my psi recruits. The ugly part was Cha0zz, who died like a Ranger - getting caught in the blast of a misjudged propane tank explosion. Whoops :(

I'm looking forward to the next session, I'm having loads of fun already. I'll see if I make it Wednesday or Thursday evening, or both. I'll see you there!

Picked it up in the sale. It's great fun. It's also really hard, even on normal, to the point where I'm seriously considering abandoning the playthrough and starting over. I have two ticks left on the timer of DOOM, have only raided one facility, am still not entirely in the tier two weapons, have no money, only 5 or 6 rooms in the avenger, no PSI, and each mission gets harder to beat without getting half my squad wiped out. I should have focused on contacting regions way sooner, and not have mistakenly thought it was the advanced warfare centre that had squad size upgrades
Also, healing times are gigantic. Nice way of forcing you not to stick with your elite squad, but kinda annoying if all 10 best soldiers have 1-3 days left but you really need to do this mission. With rookies. And it was timed. And then the Berserker Queen showed up for the first time.

And the character builder is awesome (though I would've liked more than 5 faces, and more than 2 that look good  ). Made a pool based on a lot of rekt characters. Too bad it ignores the class you specify, so Dino is a specialist and Saoirse is a grenadier. Her cannon is yellow, covered in smilies and named "PUDDING" though :ghost:
Warning: do not ask about physics unless you really want to know about physics.

This is awesome. :D I wish I could play. Someday I will. And Cornflakes is going to look the way he did in Misty's playthrough. :ghost:

:D I'll export my pool for you!

I newly started a mildly modded playthrough here, not going to finish for a while because I'll be away, but it feels a bit too easy. I either absolutely outgrew Commander (even with aim assist off), or there is something wrong between the new AI and training roulette I'm running. Poor ayys couldn't even make me sweat on an Avenger defense with the Viper King also appearing...

Or the voicepacks are too powerful  Max Caulfield got the 'nades, Private Friendly got the murder. It's glorious.

Start over once you feel things are just frustrating and hopeless. You learned something, the next alternate universe will see you win :3 My first victory was on about the fifth campaign altogether (though one of those just failed on Gatecrasher), though I did start on Commander/Ironman, because of my plentiful practice on Long War, which is a lot more unforgiving. But that was also before Rulers and meme nerfs.

General tips are:
- Half cover is no cover. Get full cover, get aid protocol, hunker, or pray hard.
- Height advantage bonuses are great, as long as the enemy doesn't grenade the floor under you.
- Make good use of stocks, grenades, Combat Protocol, anything that destroys cover or deals sure damage.
- Don't pull more than one pod at a time. Kill them ASAP. Don't ranger-rush into your death. Make this a steady roll towards the objective. Use Phantom.
- The one exception to the above is Retaliation. Pull those pods, so they stop killing civs for a sec. Also use Phantom, Phantom is great.
- Flashbangs disable Sectoid, Codex, and Stun Lancer abilities. Carry one. A mimic beacon is also a good 'get our of jail free' card.
- Get GTS and Squad Size ASAP. It's the best upgrade by far. Rush towards mag weapons at a reasonable pace, they make a large difference.
- AWC's increased healing rate can help you survive botched missions. Have a B-team for easy missions, build it up early.
- Even if the Doom Track is full, you get half a month of grace period. It's worth keeping a facility unraided but in reach so you can reset the track.
- Giving up on a mission and evacing is a viable tactic, sometimes you have to cut your losses. Don't be heroic and stubborn, if you're about to wipe, prevent it.

Oh, and get them cosmetic mods! Everything is much better if a soldier rolls a ridiculous voice pack and a top hat.
