The State of HDR for Games

PC Gamer has a good article up discussing
High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology and development processes for games.
The conclusion is that it's more useful than 3D, but less of a jump in expressiveness than High Definition. It's also more expensive, meaning it might not be attainable by many indie game developers.
There are several other good takeaways. It's tempting to imagine what drifting through one of Josh's LT nebulae might look like in HDR, but maybe the time isn't quite right to do that.
Or, for all I know, Josh is already creating and rendering in one of the current HDR "standards," even if many current monitors can't display such color/contrast data properly.

HDR sounds pretty. I also have no idea whether to tell if my monitor has it, but I'm guessing it probably doesn't.

No idea. All it says is FHD IPS.
I'm still guessing not.

Dang. Now I remember reading Josh's notes on seeing LT in HDR -- thanks for the refresher.
My monitor's got to be getting close to 10 years old now... maybe a 4K HDR monitor will happen around the time Limit Theory is released?

I got one. I don't recall any applications making use of it. :V

My 300buck 28" screens are 4k and fulfil at least the 10bit color space requirement

By "will happen" I meant "I buy one."
Sorry for the lack of clarity of my idiomatic expression.
I did do a little window shopping last night, though. 4K
and one of the HDR standards? For $300?
I must have been looking in the wrong places....

Suh-huh-WEET.
I'm probably going to go with a G-Sync monitor rather than FreeSync, but that's only because I tend to buy Nvidia cards; it's not a philosophotechnic thing.
I'd also love to jump from my current 24" to 32". But I might need LT to be delayed a little longer so the price can drop a bit on that.

Thats probably preventing you from getting those screens at bearable costs, because the last time i checked was g-sync a 100buck premium

I've noticed that.
Yet another reason why I'm not rushing to buy one of these puppies today.
