Personal taste, probably, but I really don't want the UI elements I've selected to start changing their sizes and locations without my asking for it. That's likely to interfere with whatever I might be doing at that moment.
We could as well just have it reduce its opacity.
I'd like to go all the way the article described.
Having an empty screen/hud per default and just show elements you need at that, keeping the hud minimal at all times.
Minimal information needed is different at different times.
All weapons/targetable equipment powered down?
hide the crosshairs
You are at full or zero speed and dont change it?
Hide the speedometer
Hull fully repaired, shields fully charged and in no combat situation?
Hide the health bars
sensors powering up to full power?
Show the frequency scanner widget and holographic system overlays on targetted ships
Doing the same in a combat situation?
only show the overlays and not the widget
This are of course examples of what i'd like and should be configurable
