So taking from the
Christmas 2014 Devlog, A great Easter egg would be holiday themed pocket universes that only open up on the day in question. (or any day you choose if you change your computer's calendar)
I figured I would start with Christmas, we have the North Pole System which Josh featured. But in addition to lots of snow covered asteroids and Grich ships, the whole system should be a complete Christmas experience.
So, in the North pole system, you have one big planet, visually it is entirely covered in city, but has only one colony, called Santa's Workshop. From this colony pour out hundreds of ships called Elves, mining the absurdly rich asteroids and sending the contents along candycane colored cargo-warp-rails. These Elves are of course extremely powerful, and all belong to the same faction, if you attack one, you better be invading the north pole with a massive AND powerful fleet. The Elves are of course building gifts for all the people of the universe and in Santa's workshop there are hundreds of super fast high tech assembly plants, creating thousands and thousands of way above average quality gadgets and gizmos and commodities to suddenly alter the course of the local star cluster. About 8 hours before the wormhole to the pocket universe closes, a vast convoy of capital ships erupts from the workshop and in the rear is a supermassive container ship with an unlimited cargo hold containing all the goodies which the elves have created... this is of course Santa's sleigh. Santa then leaves the North pole system, and goes on a journey around the nearest half dozen systems or so, ejecting lots of high quality goodies from his hold as he passes by each station/planet for the locals to...fight over, before returning to the north pole just before it collapses.
Santa also posts a mission which only the human player can accept... to guide his sleigh for the journey, upon accepting, the player gets a super-bright red light to attach to their ship which can be seen from any distance in any system, they also receive free Christmas Thrusters and a Rudolph Engine, so as to be able to not only keep up with the convoy but to lead it. After completing the mission (which is basically just an 8 hour escort mission) the player gets their own little pile of goodies and gets to keep the light, thrusters, and engine.
But this is an open ended game, you can do whatever you want. So what if you want to invade Santa's workshop, well... good luck. But if you survive, and you beat the Christmas faction before the sleigh appears, you get to keep ALL the goodies for yourself, and not only that, you get to keep those sweet sweet superfast, supereffecient, fabricators too... and...and... all the special Christmas blueprints which are way above average technology and really cheap to produce. If you are victorious over the north pole, you are now pretty much unstoppable for quite some time... Of course you have to also be able to truck all your new prizes out of the pocket universe before it collapses. And of course, if you conquered the north pole... it will never spawn again in that seed.
Challenging your assumptions is good for your health, good for your business, and good for your future. Stay skeptical but never undervalue the importance of a new and unfamiliar perspective.
