easy fix, make them super easy to lock onto with homing weapons. the complete lack of stealth will cost a fighter its life when a light homing missile is popped from a bomber or fighterbomber. since the missile fighter has compromized its shields it wont take a lot to kill, however a dedicated ship for fighting the missile fighters will be a sitting duck when oposed with shields and larger hulls, like destroyers or bombers (i assume a homing missile has less punch than a non homing version and thus decrease the total damage output of the ship).
also make missiles say WOOOSH when launched insteaad of the bolter sound it has currently, it makes it feel more like a missile and less like a cannon, a bright spot just where the "flames" start would add to the visuals and still be cheap on the computer.
congrats on another month of amazing work josh, the progress we see every month here seems equal to several months for other games (ahem, minecraft).

Re: fixing the missile fighters
I agree, I really need to get homing missiles implemented, it would have been the perfect way to counteract that sucker. It's on the todo list

Re: fixing the missile fighters
On the topic of homing missiles.
How feasible is it to make their detection (lock/firing) range scale with the targets signature? That would mean the fighter routing all power to engines could be hit from much further away, and that for example a battleship routing all power to massive engines could give of a heat signature large enough to be possible to lock at in extreme ranges.
I also wonder if it would be possible to implement different types homing missiles:
* The standard heat-seeking homing on heat sources
* One with active sensors homing on cross section (big ships)
* One with passive sensors homing on radiators (big active sensors and possibly shields)
* One homing on motion, blind to everything that stays still
Another question is if missiles will be able to tell the difference between friend or foe?
It could open up amazing options if you could actually trick incoming heat-seeking missiles by flying right by the attacker with them on your tail and turning off your engines, reducing your signature to drop below his and hit him with his own launched missile

Re: fixing the missile fighters
By all means, bring on the homing missiles!
But please don't axe the rockets and make it a all-homing-missiles-all-the-time show, as in EVE Online!
I've really enjoyed seeing them in the Dev Updates and would be sad if they disappeared.

Re: fixing the missile fighters
i suspect that making a missile homing would limit damage for it to be balanced.

Re: fixing the missile fighters
I guess it's going to be two distinct classes of weapons, one homing and one not homing. Then it's only a question of terminology, for instance: missile = homing; rocket = not homing.

Or heat-seeking vs dumb fire.Commander McLane wrote:I guess it's going to be two distinct classes of weapons, one homing and one not homing. Then it's only a question of terminology, for instance: missile = homing; rocket = not homing.
