Generally speaking, it should make sense for large things to make small things and small things to make large things. Large factories make small cars, and small cranes make large buildings. But this is only an economical argument; it should be possible to make small ships with drones and large ships with shipyards. It should take a ridiculously large shipyard to fit a capital ship, while construction drones should be very poorly used to make fighters—but if you don't want to be optimal there should be nothing stopping you from doing so. Modular construction allows you to make big things out of small things, which allows you to have station part factories. Modular construction of capitals should be available, and trivially modular construction of fighters too (though this is, again, an inefficient way of doing things).

I'd like to see this too. It gives a feeling of life to the game and should help to motivate players to deliver goods to places that are constructing something. Even better if that something is cool!
