Forgive me if this has been discussed before. My quick search did not show me any results indicating that it had.
I'd like to see game customization options when a new game is started. This would allow you to turn off or on certain features of the game. Based on some of the discussions were some people want a feature and some don't, some ideas might be:
Include/Exclude jump gates
Include/Exclude trade lanes
Include/Exclude fuel requirements
Set distance at which trades can be done
This, IMO, would allow more people to get the full enjoyment of a game tailored to their specific likes.
I realize this would involve more coding for Josh, who seems to be well overworked already , so it could be a 1.1 or even 2.0 feature.

Re: Customizing the game
i think the coding is less of a problem, more having the game work and being balanced with all the sliders all over the place....

There would still be the default settings that would be whats in the 1.0 version of the game.
Re: Customizing the game
I hear that. But that could be handled by letting the players experiment and discover, or by putting it in a later release and only allowing customization for things that have been tested out.Cornflakes_91 wrote:i think the coding is less of a problem, more having the game work and being balanced with all the sliders all over the place....

I'm thinking about how to make LT appeal to the widest possible market, including people with no programming skills.
Re: Customizing the game
Absolutely true! But I dare say most players won't know how to mod, and not want to take the time to learn. Now maybe someone could write a mod to actually implement a customization UI.MrPerson wrote:It could also be done with mods

Re: Customizing the game
I intend playing Limit Theory in its default state. That's why I want it to be awesome straight out of the box. I'm not remotely interested in modifying it and will only consider player modifications which have the seal of approval from the chap who's developing it.
I think his name is Josh.

...this will be better.
edit: and frankly I'm a little weirded out that this even has to be said out loud! The Bene Tleilax approve, Victor.
Re: Customizing the game
I think this should be the universal metric for games. I always got irritated by Egosoft games (even pre-Rebirth) being defended because they could be modded from non-awesome to awesome - shouldn't the base game be awesome already? I like those games, but this...Victor Tombs wrote:I intend playing Limit Theory in its default state. That's why I want it to be awesome straight out of the box.

I'm beginning to feel in the minority here! Oh, well. It's not the first time. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

It's very easy for those of us who are familiar with scripting to feel superior about it and say there's no need for something like this (and I would be one such person), but it would certainly have some very good uses.
Re: Customizing the game
Hey it's not to say mods can't improve the game, and I think your idea for a "mod-maker-mod" is very good since it should increase access to moddability.nwyllie wrote:I'm beginning to feel in the minority here! Oh, well. It's not the first time. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

I have no problem with gifted modders at all. I have found a new joy in my Skyrim game because of such talented people.
Re: Customizing the game
That's a relief, Scytale. I can never be sure how many of your kind are present here in the various forums.Scytale wrote:The Bene Tleilax approve, Victor
There is also a good chance that you are not in the minority, nwyllie. I only express my opinion concerning what I want to see. My opinion carries no more weight than the opinion of anyone here. I am frequently at odds with other members but it's always good to read different points of view. As long as they are not expressed in essay form. I tend to nod off when the walls of text start going up.nwyllie wrote:I'm beginning to feel in the minority here! Oh, well. It's not the first time. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

Re: Customizing the game
I have a feeling there will be a "Requested Mods" topic or forum section one day. Not everyone can code or has the time to code, but for those who do picking from a list of player requested mods could be interesting. Putting financing behind the person who makes the requested mod could be neat as well.
That's not against forum rules right?

Re: Customizing the game
A donate for mods functionality in a subforum would be neat. You like a Mod that much? If the maker provided the necessary information, just slam dat donate button. Maybe vua PayPal or so.BFett wrote:I have a feeling there will be a "Requested Mods" topic or forum section one day. Re: Customizing the game
In my experience, modders are limited more by available time than lack of ideas. =)BFett wrote:I have a feeling there will be a "Requested Mods" topic or forum section one day. There is no "I" in Tea. That would be gross.

Re: Customizing the game
Well that's a debate that has existed for some time. My point of view is different from yours, as I love mods in general and I judge the quality of a game by how much fun it is with mods. Indeed, checking out mods itself is part of the fun. One could argue that if a game isn't fun without mods, then the developers dropped the ball. Fair enough. But frankly, at the end of the day I don't care. I'd much rather have a poor game that can be modded extensively than a good-ish game that can't be modded at all.Scytale wrote:I think this should be the universal metric for games.
