We took 5000 years from the first noteworthy civilisations to become something still a bit short of being a class 1 civ, i doubt that it will be that much faster to reach the higher classes.
We also took 60 years to go from first powered flight to landing on our moon.
In 100 years of war the british empire rose, and fell.
500 years, with FTL jumps, unlimited birth rates, unlicenced cloning, unregulated weapons and scientific development...

Yeah, the human race could EASILY dominate at least 2 thirds of a galaxy.
Never underestimate the bloodlust or xenophobia of man.
I mean we are all here because our principal form of entertainment is exploding aliens in a simulation, and the more accurate the simulation the better.

In this context, that's a very disturbing way of looking at it.
Our computer games really are quite disturbing when you take a moment to think about it.

We have games dedicated to murdering other people (CoD), games about breeding that we murder in still (the sims), games about exterminating aliens or heretics (WH40K), games about conquering and enslaving entire countries (Total War), games where we blow up planets (PA).
And this isn't just interactive media, but also in movies, and books.

We enslave and systematically murder entire races of lesser beings for food (cows, sheep, chickens...), we force a race to run around a circuit then execute them when they can't run fast enough (horses).

We are a race that is basically dedicated to warfare, to exterminating other species, to destruction... :D
Hell all our best science serves two purposes, breeding and war. :D

Mostly, yes. It also tweaks the averages of the initial ranges slightly to account for the human tendency to aim towards rounder numbers like 3000. If you noticed, a lot of people saying they were aiming in the 2850-3050 range were actually aiming [above] 3000, but regular averages don't reflect that. The algorithm tweaks that slightly to account for it, nudging them slightly towards 1000s and 100s and so forth. The final year difference is minor, with less than a hundred years of difference, but I think it works well. 3152 does have a nice ring to it. :)
