Well, the only game with this amount of variety and depth I played for an extended amount of time was X3, so yeah, that's my comparison base :)
There I primarly settled for an M6 Katana to do the footwork with, it's a good jack-of-all-trades with balance of price, cargo, firepower, and not taking forever to cross a sector. Then the business expanded. The M5 Kestrel is just ridiculously fun to smuggle and do rapid exploration with, since it's nothing but a glorified rocket with things bolted on as an afterthought  Later with ridiculous amount of money I could afford an M7 Thresher, basically a big glass cannon with weapons way out of its league.

All in all, I'll probably go for a corvette size first as an all-rounder, then maybe have a pocket destroyer/frigate as a mobile base of operations, hangaring little zippy ships.

for me it will depend on the flight mechanics, i normally prefer to be able to outrun my opponents, so probably a small/medium sized ship. i'll probably start out with some mining, maybe take on some small "destroy competition" missions, then move up to larger more capable ships.

typically the smallest ships dont have enough cargo to do any mining with, but they are fun to zip around in, and i definately want dont want to take forever to get across the sector.

Massive ship

#49
I would love to see a rather LARGE ship as something to strive towards building. A centralized hub for NPC control with higher efficiency. Larger range sensors and especially good at flying long distances quickly (which is what it would primarily be used for). Course it wouldn't be feasible to breach an atmosphere with it ( thought it should be possible to the effect of the ship burning up and crashing ( which would also be a cool twist of strategy!)

I mean a HUGE ship.

Little off topic, but since I like capital ships, and logistics, I guess I would fall into that category, but if there are any EVE players here, what do you think a industrial titan would look like? This could apply to LT too, giant mobile factory that you can just fly to an asteroid belt, unleash hundreds of mining drones, have them bring all the minerals (or even whole asteroids to a giant grinder on the side of the ship somewhere if we are getting far fetched) and refine and produce parts and even ships without even having to move. Sounds awesome but it would take ridiculous amounts of resources and such to fly, but it might be worth it eventually.

maybe like

i like everything (except the death star super ultra meemlhleh dreadnoughts).

In a normal playtrough i play everything (im a police/pirat/trader/bountyhunter/warmongler/spacetaxi/diplomatic guy, also i like to smash things)

a "perfect" endgamefleet for me would be 2 big carriers, 1 Mainbattleship, a dozen of smaller heavy shielded cruiser, a *hit load of torpedocorvettes ... and me sitting in the toughest fastest scout i can find zipping around and looking at the havok.
More people want exploding kittens than exploding ships. Somehow, this makes me happy.

....
Actually the lack of flexibility will doom such a ship. Why have that when you can leave the mining up to a fleet of faster miners that can move and pick the good roids to mine (dedicated mining ships will outmine drones) and deliver their cargo to a centralized storage/building ship?

Your missile corvettes are going to be virtually useless against a fleet with any kind of decent point defense.

Personally I would prefer having 1 huge ship to having tons of smaller ships that are dedicated. Would have to have like 10 miners, 20 storage, 10 drone boats, and a station to reprocess and manufacture to equal the ship I am imagining.
