Can not play

#1
Hi, I have had this issue since the prototype launched. I open the game up and the launcher works, then I select a resolution my computer can handle for full screen and launch the game. However when I do that it changed the resolution back to one my screen can not handle and I have to force restart my whole computer. Simple solution would be to play in windowed mode. That's not the case due to the game not even launching in windowed mode. I get an icon on my task bar but when I click it nothing pops up, I just see my desktop. Is there a way to fix this?

Hey Xtremet90,

First, can you please give your system specs (or fill it out in your user profile if you don't want to share publicly)? I need to make sure that you are running a capable graphics card (any decent GPU from the last 2-3 years should work fine, but if you have an integrated chip, there might be some trouble).

Next, can you please attach any log files in your My Documents / My Games / LT Prototype / folder?

Thanks and sorry for the trouble!

Sorry about that, no trouble at all (added it to my profile as well). Honestly I believe its my monitor due to the simple fact that I've never had issues running anything before, graphic intensive or not, I built this baby for games specifically. (however was limited by my cash at the time.)
Windows 7 Ult. 64-bit
Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Processor 3.20GHz
RAM: 4.00 GB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460
Monitor: Acer S220HQL orS230HL LCD monitor (I forget which)

Thanks! Well, this has me puzzled. Looking at your specs you should have no trouble playing, and there's nothing in the error log either.

However, now that you mention it, I do remember similar behavior when I tried to play using a TV as a monitor. There is a known issue with playing on "atypical" monitors...I believe it might be a problem with monitors that are not using 60hz refresh rate (like TVs, for instance). Looking at your monitor I don't see why it would be a problem, but it sounds like the same issue. The only temporary fix that I could suggest is if your monitor supports 60hz and is not currently using it, try switching to this refresh rate and see if it helps.

I am going to look into this and try to fix the known issue for the next patch, and will hope that it also fixes your issue.

In the mean time, do you have any other machines or monitors that you can play on? I'm very sorry for the inconvenience!

That is the strange thing, it is already at 60hz. I honestly don't know the issue. I do not have another monitor or machine to test it on. Well I have another monitor but its old and has a terrible resolution ( doubt it would display it). Thank you for looking into it and I look forward to the next patch. (I'm wondering whether the issue is the game trying to force me into a resolution I can not see or use).

Good Day, Gentlemen,

I too have had a similar problem since the prototype launch. I messed with my refresh rates and resolution settings and nothing changes whatsoever. Here is the breakdown:

I start up LT from the default launch location. The beginning interface pops up. When I move mouse over the black area into the interface the mouse arrow disappears.

I can still click launch (blind targeting) and then screen goes to full screen, black "loading screen" for about 4 seconds then crashes with an error message as follows:

"The Limit Theory Engine has failed internally and cannot recover. It would be greatly appreciated if you could report this occurrence at the forums....etc...."I tried to unclude the crash dump but cannot attach file.

Here is the text:

The disappearance of the mouse suggests an error in the shader compiler. Sounds like it could be an old driver issue.

It would really help if you could include "logErrors.txt" and "logAsserts.txt", which can be found in your LTP data folder (My Documents / My Games / LT Prototype)

Also, please update your GPU drivers while you're at it :)

Grumblesaur wrote:It puzzles me as to why you bring this up now, as the Prototype was quite a while ago.
But gravedigs aside, a glance at your system specs doesn't indicate that there would be any sort of problem. I recall there being a v1.1 patch for the prototype. Did you install that?

Is there a versions besides the prototype? I have not been on the forums for a good while, been on a kind of hiatus. But yes I do have 1.1 installed and it did not help at all. I had my drivers updated. Recently a child/milk type accident all over my keyboard (while I was away) fried my board and I just replaced it. I had to flash my bios. I did perform a manual update of nvidia drivers and that seems to have helped.

Thank you Josh and Grumblesaur for such quick responses. I greatly appreciate your time.
