Re: Ships are dying easly

Well I don't think this will be too much of an issue in the final game, the ships that are in the prototype are incredibly small compared to the eventual capital ships. The capital ships are slated to be around 100-200 percent larger than a fighter and that is a massive ship, with that in mind I would expect those ships to take a long time and extreme amount of force to silence.
The only limit is the one you set.

Indeed, this is true. There are actually no capital ships in LTP. The destroyer is the largest sub-capital in the game, but is only 10x the size of a fighter, whereas the largest capital ship in the game is 100x, and has roughly 10000x the hull strength of a fighter.

Caps are going to be a serious ordeal to take down :)

Yes, I highly doubt that these ships will die that easily in the final game. How does it feel to lose 600k worth of credits just because of a well-armed fighter? Heck, there's even a competition going on now to take on these big guys with the lightest-armed fighters.

Destroyers are sub-capital? I generally thought of them as capitals...thanks to the X series.
So that implies that there will be Cruiser/Battlecruiser sizes to act as capital ships? Of course the ultimate capital ships will be Carriers and/or Dreadnoughts.

Looking forward to feeling like a fly on the wall when flying beside these behemoths. :D

Destroyers are tin cans. Just about the smallest ocean-going (military) vessels.

Capital ships are battleships, battlecruisers, and carriers... with a few exceptionally large heavy cruisers thrown in.

Cruisers, destroyers, frigates... are not capital ships. They are the workhorses of a navy; they do escort duty and patrols, or scouting and screening for capital ships.
Literally screening if it comes to that.
When a torpedo is incoming on something like a carrier it's not an exceptional act of valor for a cruiser to interpose it's hull. It's the job of cruisers and smaller ships. Some days the job sucks.

Definitely, but I believe that the choice of which exact capital ship classes / sizes will be in the game will depend on how they will fit into the game. If there will be a purpose for that ship class.
Creating excess ship classes and then not having anything special for them to do wouldn't be fun. =)
There is no "I" in Tea. That would be gross.

Although, to be fair, something like today's Aegis destroyers (or maybe even a littoral combat ship) are lethal tin cans compared to a bunch of pirates in a Zodiac.

No argument on the "capital" designation, though. Not that your excellent explanation is going to stop people from calling destroyers capital ships, any more than I can convince game designers (who ought to know better) to stop using the word "strategic" when they really mean "tactical," so *sigh*. :|

(Which, I guess I should add, is not simply pedantry. These terms matter in game design because they affect what kinds of gameplay someone is capable of understanding and creating. Someone who doesn't see useful distinctions is likely to miss opportunities to fill distinctive gameplay modes.)

Well armed fighter can destroy a frigate or a destroyer.(size doesnt matter?)

I think this need to fix because bigger ships have more armour than smaller ships!
example;
Fighter does normal damage to a fighter
Fighter does high damage to a bomber(because bomber have more health/hull)
Fighter does low damage to Corvette,Frigate,Destroyer

A destroyer does high damage to smaller class ships
a destroyer does low damage to Higher class ships
a destroyer does normal damage to destroyer

The only real issue is that there is no limitation on what you can equip in LTP. So fighters can equip weapons that should be reserved for much larger ships, making them very agile powerhouses. With hardpoint restrictions, it would be as intended.

Ship armor already scales as the square of ship size, so destroyers are significantly more armored than fighters, but again, you really can't tell if you're carrying 4 destroyer weapons on a fighter :D

I fail to see how interposing your hull between said carrier and 750kg of military grade explosive is anything but an extreme act of valor. Just because it's somebodies job doesn't make it any less courageous.
