LTFC - July/August 2017 - Combat Edition

Take part in the discussion --> here
Only submissions in this thread, please.

Heyaa!

Welcome to the 17th edition of the Limit Theory Fan Contest! This month will be about "Combat". It doesn't necessarily have to focus completely on combat, but it must openly feature the topic in some form. Be a little creative, and I'm sure you can come up with something awesome. :) Everyone can make as many admissions as they like, but only one can be the "official" admission by which you are judged.

This contest will have 3 prizes for the top three submissions, and each entrant can only win one prize. If there are less than six entrants, only two prizes will be given out. If there are less than four entrants, only one prize will be awarded. If there are less than two entrants, no prizes will be given. Selected prizes will be taken from the pool, and winners can choose between them. First place gets first pick.

The objective: Create art about Limit Theory.
This could be in written form as a story, lore, or a detailed idea for a mod. It could be visual like a gif, photoshop or video. Or even audio - anyone up for a bit of stand-up about Limit Theory? These are just a few ideas off the top of my head, but I'm sure you guys can think of a lot more. It is fine to use other games' assets in your submissions, as long as your work is your own.
Rule of thumb: "Does it spotlight Limit Theory?"

In addition to the prizes, Josh has asked me to add that he is willing to hold a thirty-minute one-on-one conversation with the first place winner, if they feel so inclined. Otherwise, the second place winner will be given the option, and then the third, etc. This is purely an add-on prize; you will still receive a game prize as well. :)
Prize pool: Depending on the number of submissions, two to four prizes will be randomly selected from the pool for the winners to choose from. The remaining prizes will be held over for next month. This gives all winners prizes to choose between, with the first place winner having first pick between them all. This should ensure everyone gets something they enjoy. The prize that is not chosen gets returned to the pool for the next month, and the pool is refilled to six items, randomly chosen from a list. If an item is declined by the last-place winner two months in a row, it is removed from the pool to keep things fresh.

The rules:
  • The artwork needs to be about Limit Theory per the objective.
  • Everybody is free to enter but can only submit one entry to the contest. You are free to change or replace your submission for as long as the contest is open.
  • If you have submitted more than one work, you need to be very clear about which one you're entering. If there is any doubt, the latest entry in the forum thread will be judged.
  • You cannot submit something you've already submitted to a previous LTFC. Submitting things you plan to (or have) submitted to other non-LT contests is discouraged.
  • All contest submissions have to be made as a reply to this thread.
  • Submitting a prize does not exclude you from having a submission scored.
  • Judges are not barred from making a submission themselves, but their submissions can't earn prizes. If they would like their submissions to earn prizes, they cannot act as a judge for that month.
  • The contest will be open to new submissions until Friday, September 1st, 23:59 GMT.
  • Discussion about this contest or submissions can happen here.
  • Any prizes are yours to do whatever you want with them. You can even give the prize to someone else if you'd like, and they don't have to be from this forum.
  • If last month's first-place winner gets first place in this contest as well, they must wait to choose their prize until after the second place winner of this month chooses.
Note: if you're using another site to host content, make sure the title and comment displays that it's part of a contest submission. This is to avoid future Googlers from becoming confused when looking for official content.

Judging:
Our panel of three judges will evaluate the submissions based on the following criteria:
  • Originality: 30%
  • Aesthetic: 25%
  • Details: 10%
  • X factor: 20%
  • Realism according to the LT universe: 15%
And most importantly: Have fun!

Re: LTFC - July/August 2017 - Combat Edition

#3
And here is my entry for the Summer Edition of LTFC.
Spoiler:      SHOW
Image
As usual, here is a finely crafted link to a version with much more pixels if your screen is larger, or to see important details.

I am not 100% happy with the nuclear explosion, as the clouds don't have the kind of dynamic rotating movement they should have. If somebody has a trick to do it better, I would be interested to learn... and I have two more weeks to surreptitiously change the image the links point on ;)

All human body models have been imported from https://archive3d.net and are free models created by Vera, Rahman Jr, and David Horvath; the water dispenser is from Ojo Joseph. I was even so lazy and took a coin model from Vustin (a cylinder should have been within my competence, but there is a law of minimal effort).
All other models have been created and textured by yours truly - here is a nice model of asteroid thrower spaceship in Wings 3D for those interested in the nifty details:
Spoiler:      SHOW
A class of vessel that is missing in most SF settings:
The asteroid thrower. It is like the catapult of ancient time showering small stones to disturb formations: in preparation for an attack, hidden some distance away from the enemy, it throw rocks at very high speed with trajectories calculated to reach the future combat field at a precise moment. Then friendly ships get the trajectories in memory and the ship's computer automatically avoid the dangerous zones. The enemy ships do not have this chance and can be hit - space may be large, but asteroids are cheap. If you have enough time to prepare the field, it can get a quite dense shower of stones. But mostly static stations or planetary bases have no chances to dodge.

[Cargo-Freighter Celera R147]
[Mission 18 - Emergency Delivery]
[Audio Log #3]

Why are we still flying through this minefield?! When does it end?
I'd like to know that as well, but we can't contact our escort.
Well, we deactivated all of our sensors and radar equipment, of course we can't ask them! Only flying blindly behind them.
At least they didn't ask to cover our windows.
You are surprisingly calm while being flown remote controlled through a freaking minefield by some vile faction!
We've been given civil emergency clearance for our cargo delivery, they have to safely guide us to the Cziewysa colony.
Or the GOF would interfere in the conflict and takes side for the other faction, I know...
That the entire nebular is filled with mines was known, that's why these systems are so cut off. The only other way is going all the way around and enter from the Mavo-Zyr system.
For how slowly we are going, it would have been faster taking the long way, but no... thanks to our medical cargo that cannot resist the radiation from Mavo-Zyr we're stuck here!
We are flying behind them, if they mistake the pathway, they're the ones who are getting hit.
Hate to break it to you but those are self-propelled proximity mines. If our fighter escort makes a mistake chances are the activated mine is going target us instead of them. Which reminds me... Why did we have to deactivate our sensors? These kind of minefields change daily, there is no use recording a temporary pathway.
They are paranoid in this almost month-long ongoing battle.
Seems like it... I'm gonna check our cargo hold.
Leaving me alone here? At least take coms with you.
Based on the visibility in this nebular we haven't even reached the half-way point yet, but thanks to our top-class equipment I don't have to rely on my eyesight to guess nebular density, right? I come back after I finished writing my last will.
What?...

[...]

We carry quite a lot of medical supplies compared to water and food.
Based on the emergency request, the planet still has basic water and food facilities.
Why the emergency then?
Because diseases are spreading rather quickly there...
Well I can't wait till we get there. Hopefully our freighter won't get stormed once we land... Huh? Why are we slowing down?
The fighter stopped. Seems like they almost got off the path.
And no mine triggered? Guess we're lucky...
We're already moving again. Shouldn't take us to long to get out of this nebular.
You know, they could still kill us.
It wouldn't benefit them, they can't use our cargo since it would be linked to our freighter.
They don't need to use the cargo, they would simply blame the destruction on the others.
So both faction blame each other over it? Why would they want that?
At least one faction isn't interested in a truce, since we wouldn't be in this situation otherwise.
You should probably come back up here, seems like we're almost out the nebular.
I come back as soon as the mines are behind us... If I see any more of them I'm gonna have nightmares.
Well, at the very least we can take the Mavo-Zyr route to get back.

[...]

Look at all this wreckage, just how many ships were fighting here?
It is going for 3 weeks now and neither side is backing down.
There are even remains of capital ships...
Don't let looks deceive you, some of them are probably still online.
They fully wrecked, even their core destroyed.
Some of those capitals rely mostly on rocket- and torpedo-batteries, which can still be fired even without energy.
Pilots and crew are still working within these wreckages? No wonder the few reports which reached us made it sound like hell broke lose.
There are even fighters hiding within these wreckages...
These fighters are not build for long-time missions, they might just starve in there...
I can see the gunboat coming which will help escorting us.
Three fighters of one faction and a gunboat of the other... Makes you wonder why they don't just call a truce?
At this point they only continue to fight to get victorious or for glory. They originally tried to get control over Cziewysa-system but that lost all its value by now. Just look at all these wreckages, nothing can warrant that many casualties. At this point the salvageable parts might have the highest value around here...
Further proofs my point of how insane these people are. Forcing them to continuously fight under such conditions. See this gunboat? Looks like a bomber-sized craft rammed it, probably because it was out of ammunition. It's like they only allow us to deliver our stuff so they can continue to fight undisturbed...
Strange, I see an untainted ion-frigate that's just gliding over there.
No visible damage?
No. It looks completely abandoned. Why would they leave it just like that.
That looks like a IzGareQ-class frigate... ... Yeah, they have lost all sanity here it seems.
Wait. What's so special about this frigate?
It uses its outer hull to charge up. And they overcharged it.
So the entire ship was crippled while charging? Killing everyone on board?
They did so deliberate, probably to target one of those capital ships...
You right, these two faction have completely lost it.
Hopefully we don't get grounded on Cziewysa.
Whatever their motives are, they don't want outsiders attention so they probably going to escort us out of this system right after unloading.
Let's just hope this is all worth it.
Hate to say, but since this cargo run counts as "escorted emergency delivery" the payment will be pretty low, if there was no immediate danger to the ship.
No immediate danger?!
We just have persuade them to give us better compensation.
I just make them listen to our audio log and then watch them trying to shrug all that off!
