Basic problem is that Josh has ran himself into a wall of performance issues and code length which relates to complexity. Josh is attempting ways to fix this problem but has yet to come up with a solution over the past 2 years. Do keep in mind that 6 months of those 2 years Josh was out for medical reasons.

Hilarious.
I'm unhappy with this analogy.

I think a more accurate one would be a mechanic familiar with tools to lift and outfit an eighteen wheeler tries to build a jet. There are other jets out there, but he's never built one before and wants to make it stand out. Even so, his knowledge has to bridge a gap, and because of the way he's building the jet, he has to see how all the pieces fit together before welding them permanently.... And finding that he can't hold up all the pieces he's already got and knows he has to build more, so he's looking for better equipment to get him there.

Understanding the difficulties isn't enough at this point, however. Real consistency with simple communication informing us what he's currently working on is essential to restore faith.

We are awaiting with baited breath your explanation of what he should have done. In great technical detail.

I really don`t know.
I mean I don`t know why I should have any obligation to do so.
I didn`t step forward and claim that I could develop
such a game with one hand tied on my back(Just read the kickstarter Kampaign!).
Neither did I collect other peoples money for this purpose.
The current state of affairs are Josh Parnells Problem and not mine.
Do you really think I should have to prove I could do it better
before I have the right to criticise?

Dinosawer wrote:No, but you do have to prove you have sufficient background to criticise what you're criticising. Which your analogy clearly shows is not the case.
So criticism is reserved for the few chosen self declared software experts
and part time developers here on the forum.
I must admit this lowers the hurdle significantly but I don´t think that I
could pass your test no matter how hard I would try.
Would you eventually accept some praise for Josh Parnell without this
approved qualification ?

Oh no, only criticism about, you know, coding. :P
I mean, you're allowed to say whatever you want, but saying "he has no idea how to do X" after he's done X in three different and very advanced ways just makes you look silly :ghost:

Please keep this thread civil. I have no problem with fair criticism. That's what this thread is for. I do have a problem with members of this forum showing serious disrespect to me or (especially) other members. As this has historically been a remarkably well-behaved community with which I've enjoyed interacting, I will not hesitate to take action in order to ensure that it remains as such.

So, let's cool it please. Again, fair criticism is welcome. Outright antagonism is not. Be respectful.

Thank you.

I keep wanting to read this like a Haiku :-(

notami, I understand what you're trying to say, and to an extent, you're right. Josh is not an experienced game developer, and as such, has to discover the principles of game development as he goes. That's all this is, and if you had any other expectations, honestly, that's on you.

Is that simple enough in your terms?

You made further use of my silly analogy, so please dont complain:
An engine that had the bhp output of a lawnmower-motor and a frame that started to wobble at speeds
over 30 mph.Nice Paintjob though.
In the end you have no useable car or no playable game.
Except for the paintjob he didn`t achieve anything.
Some Videos-Potemkin Villages- on YouTube.

Maybe not complicated enough for you but simple enough for me.

No Matter how you look at it he is stuck in ethernal development.

->Don Josh`s Cathedral.

@Ringu
In a way you are right.Complaining is pointless.
Simple Solution:
Close the unhappiness tread.

All things have points. Complaining is a release of emotion combined with communicating the existence of dissatisfaction.

Similarly, civility is a method of demonstrating implied respect for those with whom you converse, and generally serves the purpose of encouraging an audience to support you. Specific complaints with reasons are not uncivil.

I'm not convinced that you have been uncivil. But often, I find it beneficial to err on the side of civility for the simple expedient of attempting to create a receptive audience.

Complaints and courtesy are not mutually exclusive.

Edit: ninjad by Josh. I won't mind if you delete this... Though I won't mind if you don't.
