An NPC's inner purpose

#1
Some thoughts in response to today's blog on parallelism and delegation.

An interesting point raised by Josh was how one npc determines whether or not another npc is up to the task. Let's simplify it down to two things:

1. Purpose. An npc's purpose in life will affect its tendency to step up to the plate and volunteer, when the task satisfies its purpose in life through objectives set by the npc-manager. Essentually a Manager-npc would not delegate mining task to a soldier-npc unless there were no miners around.
2. Aptitude. How successful the npc performs in their delegated task.

Also,on a larger scale, "Purpose" is the combined inclination/culture of the race/faction.

What could be an npc/faction/race purpose? A varying combination of kill, control, research, build, manage, defend, liaise, trade, explore. Maybe there are others.

This is very hierarchical - where objectives are set on a race/faction/team/individual level, which align with the purpose of each.
