To me, the new image looks like a cross between the explosive Eta Carina nebula and the iris of the human eye. I like that it's got texture -- should be fun to fly through!

You know I have a serious addiction to nebulae..to be honest, I think this is an addiction with which I will have to struggle for my whole life

See Freespace 2, Mission 28. The actual mission starts around 4:10 in. I also love the way their nebulas are, feeling completely lost at times. Such great ambiance for a 14 year old game.
