Steam Sale Time!

Postby Charley_Deallus » Thu Nov 26, 2015 11:28 pm

It's that time of year again! Great time where lots of games are on sale. Now, the real question is:

What game(s) should be a priority? I have been looking at lists and lists of games but I don't know what are good buys and what are junk. Reviews and stuff like that can give hints but I really trust the opinions of my fellow gamers here. Since you all don't do anything else with your lives...right? :p

Oh and I tried finding the old thread that had steam sales and random games in it but the search kept telling me that I was using too common of words...

The magic of Search: put a "*" character after the words you want to search for.

"Help*" instead of "Help" for example.

It'll sometimes pull up more than you want, but at least it will return more than nothing. ;)

I believe the winter sale is the largest sale and the one with the biggest discounts, so I might wait a couple of weeks for it instead of picking up games right now. But I do have a few questions....

Have any of you played Descent Underground? Is it one large persistent world or is it map based like the original descent games?

I'd also like feedback on Galaxy on Fire 2 and Starpoint Gemini 2. Are these games enjoyable after beating the main campaign (story line)?

And I guess that's it for now. I'm basically looking for a solid sandbox space game that can hold my attention for a couple hundred hours worth of play.

I ended up uninstalling Starpoint Gemini 2 long before completing the campaign: frustrating load times eventually wore me down. I suspect that the devs did not find the code-elegance they might have hoped for.

I've picked up Endless Legend in the sale (it'll probly be the only one I get).
Extremely polished and confidently executed 4X is my day one impression. Pretty art and styling is noteworthy. Lots of lore throughout.
The One More Turn! compulsion is at least as strong as Civ's.

Have you heard of Limit Theory? It's not out yet but it has some really cool stuff... :ghost: Sounds like what you're looking for... :ghost:

Really? What kind of cool stuff? Does it have economics and space battles? :ghost:

That's a Han Solo's line in A New Hope!

Luke Skywalker: Well, more wealth than you can imagine!
Han Solo: I don't know, I can imagine quite a bit.

Han Solo: I don't know, I can imagine quite a bit.
Luke Skywalker: You'll get it.
Han Solo: I'd better.
Luke Skywalker: You will!

I just bought Sleeping Dogs Definite Edition and Remember Me + DLC.
Installing the latter as we speak (the former requires disk space I do not have atm).

RM is a sure buy. I knew the game already, sort of.
But I should like SDDE as well. Undercover cop, Hong Kong, Martial arts, AND Pork bun? It is a winner.

Oh, and I congratulate with Baile nam Fonn for the excellent pick.
I have been playing Endless Legend since February this year. Very polished. Finely detailed. Lovely soundtrack. All factions are well balanced, and yet play differently -or even very differently- from each other.
Name a 4X -> I played it -> and it invariably bored me to tears. Not Endless Legend.
The only criticism I move to the game is the lack of a proper graphics menu from which to pick individual settings. Right now you have to choose from presets you do not know the details of. As the game's graphics can be quite demanding, having only presets to go by can be unnecessarily taxing for one's system. In other games lowering this or that individual graphic trait can improve performance without sensibly detracting from the overal picture quality, but in Endless Legend this is not possible. The devs patch it on a regular basis, though, and there is hope that they will implement a proper graphics menu. Or you can head over to the Amplitude forums and make your voice heard ;)

Can I borrow some of that? I had this odd dream that I really want to remember because it had Batman in it somewhere. :ghost: :shh:

The results of logic, of natural progression? Boring! An expected result? Dull! An obvious next step? Pfui! Where is the fun in that? A dream may soothe, but our nightmares make us run!

Alright, besides Endless Legend, are there any other games that are worth picking up? :D Without too many off topic posts about Star Wars (I enjoyed them! I just wanted games haha)
