The WolfStar Raiders

Ladies, Gentlemen and Helicopters

Welcome to The WolfStar Raiders thread! We are a group of space sim junkies currently enjoying playing Elite: Dangerous together.

The officially endorsed history so far:

GoatChops wrote:Last night’s instalment of "The GoatStar Raiders" meet with great success! I mean besides pissing off federal security services to the point that 6 additional vessels (over and above the 4 already shooting at us) dog-piled in on us...

It was total over reaction on the part of the feds imo. I mean yeah fair enough Silverware started shooting first. But the guy he was shooting was evil he had a bounty and all, like a whole 100 credits... just not in the system we happened to be in at that particular moment  And then the local bounty hunters got involved, and then I got involved and before you know it police everywhere (never around when you need them) What is the galaxy coming to when two honest business men turned (bad) bounty hunters have to run from the law they are trying to uphold?

The arrival of many-lots fed security service ships lead to the GoatStar Raiders heroically jumping out to a random nearby system where we checked our galaxy maps and scooped fuel from the star. After some deliberation i.e. "Wolf 506 is a cool system name, let’s go there!" We headed off to what we hoped would be greener pastures.

The name was prophetic because Wolf 506 is a cool system, high tech, good population and more extraction sites, belts and rings then you can poke a stick at! Docking up for repairs and ammo we had a quick look at the shipyard and outfitters and I have to say we scored. Ships ranging from the sidewinder up to the anaconda with weapons and fittings of all sizes up to class A! Excited about our new (likely temporary, because you know... Silverware :ghost: ) home we headed out to one the planetary rings to hunt down some pirates.

We only got 45 minutes in the rings but it was a great 45 minutes which I will now portray unto you in bullet point form:
• We made it to the same part of the planetary ring after only 2 attempts
• We managed to only scan each other for bounties 4 times
• We managed to only shoot each other 1 once (Silverware got all anti space goat for some reason  )
• We only crashed into each other during dog fights twice
• We killed many-lots evil pirates and cleared our bounties
• We docked up having made ~131k in bounties each

This adventure of the GoatStar Raiders was amazing! New Motto ~We fly badly, we fight badly and we make questionable decisions~

But we had a load of fun doing it and we will continue to do so!

Our current home is Wolf 506.

If you want to join us and you fly during or near to the +10 and +12 GMT timezones feel free to join us! :D
Silverware wrote:I'm just going to correct you, that it's Wolf 906 that we went to!

:D
After the events detailed above Silveware and myself decided to rename ourselves from GoatStar to WolfStar in honour of our amazing new home system and open our doors to any and all! Come Join us as we shoot, trade and mine our way across the Milky way! Earning an increasingly bad reputation for general pilot skill levels as we go!

Chapter 1
Spoiler:      SHOW
GoatChops wrote:the WolfStar Chronicles: Chapter 1

Tonight was our first official sortie as The WolfStar Raiders (WSR). And a glorious night it was!

It started with a communique from deep in the heart of the core worlds, a young CMDR by the name of Cornflakes had heard of WSR's exploits . Wishing for glory, fame, women and renown he began a long and perilous journey across the galaxy toward Wolf 906. For he believed... He BELIEVED! with all his heart that he could find the things he wanted, NAY NEEDED! within the ranks of WSR

With only 1000 credits to his name and flying a second hand Sidewinder armed with a rusty pulse laser Cornflakes flew. He was pursued by pirates, he claimed bounties, he discovered whole systems and yet he flew!!! But nothing... NOTHING! Could prepare him for the greatest challenge of his journey... finding a fuel scoop to fit to his sidewinder /facepalm... (Welcome aboard Cornflakes!)

Meanwhile in Wolf 906 (Not to be confused with Wolf 506...which may or may not exist) CMDR GoatChops was kicking back in dock waiting on CMDR Silverware09. CMDR Silverware09 was a system over. CMDR Silverware09 was a system over due to an emergency jump. CMDR Silverware09 had to make an emergency jump because he shot at the feds. Again. And the feds dog piled in on him. Again. CMDR GoatChops is reasonably sure that one day CMDR Silverware will get WSR chased out of our home system. Closely followed by the Federation's main battle-fleet :|

After GoatChops cleared up Silverware's slight misunderstanding with the Feds they set about re-earning their reputation as civic minded Citizens of Wolf 906. By assisting the local Federal law enforcement protecting Wolf's legitimate industrial concerns from pirate attacks... and what could it hurt if they earned some bounties on the side, I mean those multi cannons are not going to rearm them self. The first patrol proved very profitable and saw CMDRs Silverware09 and GoatChops tick over into "Friendly" status with the locals! It also earned them ~400k ish before they had to dock up for rearming and repair.

It was at this point that CMDR Cornflakes joined them in system and officially became a WolfStar Raider. Meanwhile CMDR Silverware09 was busy giggling like a pre-space colonization anime school girl while he spent his hard earned credits fitting out his Cobra MKIII with 4x Gimble mount Beam lasers :eh: Rearmed and ready for battle the companions set out together for a second patrol and CMDR Cornflakes proved that he is indeed a WolfStar Raider...

So there they were... in the belts, shooting up pirate raiders, crashing into each other, shooting each other, laughing at Silverware's shield melting 4 beam lasers when Cornflakes... CMDR Cornflakes manages to piss of the feds, prompting the following exchange on Wing comms:

Cornfalkes: "I am being attacked"
GoatChops: "Aaahh, that is the feds shooting at you"
Silverware: "Holyshit, that is the feds shooting at you, get out dude"
GoatChops: "Did you shoot a fed?"
Cornflakes: "I flew through his lasers, but I didn't attack him"

So let the record show that WSR are not sure exactly how it started but we know what happened immediately after it started. Which I will now render unto you in point form:

-Feds started shooting at Cornflakes, a WolfStar Raider
-GoatChops started shooting at Feds because shooting one WolfStar Raiders is the same as attacking all WolfStar Raiders
-Silverware Started shooting at Feds because he likes shooting at Feds...
-The Feds overreact and send in 3 light frigates and several fighters
-GoatChops and Silverware attempt to cover Cornflakes as he tries to escape in his second hand sidewinder which is melting under Federal Fire (it only has, well... had, a sandwich bag grade shield generator)
-Holding himself to the highest standards of The WolfStar Raiders, Cornflakes loses his ship heroically attempting to run away from law enforcement
-Silverware and GoatChops make good their escape, mourning (laughing) at the loss of Cornflakes's trusty ol'Sidewinder.

And thus ended the first official sortie of The WolfStar Raiders WSR. Already new traditions are forming and newer, lower standard are been set for pilot spacial awareness  Most importantly the legacy of the original "GoatStar Raiders" has survived the name change and fun was had.

If you would like to join WSR please contact Silveware or GoatChops on Steam or via forum PM. We welcome anyone and everyone
Chapter 2

GoatChops wrote:The WolfStar Chronicles: Chapter 2

We rejoin WSR as CMDR GoatChops is in hyperspace back toward Wolf 906. After the events of our previous adventure CMDRs GoatChops and Silverware were forced to cool their jets over in Wolf 896 (again) whilst the misunderstanding with the Feds cleared up (again). GoatChops - ready to sortie for some credits was hoping to start the day with an easy escort mission or two before sinking his teeth into something a bit tougher. Preferably with a good wingman along for safety. Unfortunately the only available wingman in the cluster was Silverware09 (Seriously recruitment is open :P) . Sighing to himself GoatChops opened up his comms link:

Silverware: (Over brightly) Hey dude, how are you?
GoatChops: (with suspicion) What have you done?
Silverware: (barely suppressed laughter) I kinda maybe blew up Cornflakes
GoatChops: (amused)... How...
Silverware: (more barely suppressed laughter) Some fancy piloting, some explosions happened, I think its best if he describes it honestly

Note: The WolfStar Raiders would like to point out that the attitudes displayed by both Silverware and GoatChops is not in keeping with The WSR values of loyalty and respect toward fellow WSR members. Unfortunately it is very much in keeping with the general mind set and skill level of the WSR rank and file.
Cornflakes wrote:Cornflakes: eh... yeah... i accidentally gone into silent running which lowered my shields.
And then silver crashed into me with his fully charged shields. >.>
His shields didnt stay charged for long, though.
As the coriolis starport from where we both started moments prior took silvers accident as assasination and shot him down in a moments notice.
So due to me hitting silent running and silver not being able to avoid crashing into me we both lost our ships...
GoatChops: (snickering) Okay, I am short a few credits and am keen for some work.
Silverware: (outright laughter) Funny you should say that because I have just picked up a random signal - looks like a wreck, shell we?

Reunited and in wing together GoatChops and Silverware set off toward a strong signal source out in the middle of Wolf 906. Dropping from super cruise they set about investigating the wreckage only to find it mostly intact with the cargo floating unclaimed around it. This was despite the wreck showing clear signs of battle damage:

GoatChops: This is odd
Silverware: 2x Sensor readings, known pirates - THEY ARE IN LIGHT FRIGATES! (Anacondas)
GoatChops: Ambush!

Within seconds CMDR GoatChops found his ship (that was dead in space so he could investigate the wreck) targeted by both pirates, and nearly blown out from under him (24% hull left)! Silencing his alarms and putting full power to engines he boosted away just in time to avoid 2 plasma bolts (I kid you not, they must melted the paint on the way past).

CMDR Silverware, with a cry of "Tally ho!" and what can only be described as manic laughter, floored it toward the pirates and hooked in behind them while they chased GoatChops. Thus began 5 minutes of the most intense dog fight CMDRs GoatChops and Silverware have been in together. 5 minutes which I will now attempt to render onto you in point form:

- Silverware hooked in behind the Anaconda's and started targeting their drive systems
- Meanwhile GoatChops played a dicey game of cat and mouse, trying to stay close enough to keep the Anacondas interested in killing him, but not so close they could actually kill him
- The Feds dropped into the fight and upon seeing Pirates vs The WolfStar Raiders ("Is there a difference?" - On site Federal Force Commander) contented themselves with securing the wreckage
- The Feds crack open beers (we assume) and start laying bets on which WSR pilot will blow up first
- GoatChops ask what the odds are, the Feds don't respond
- Silverware successfully disables the drive unit of one of the Anacondas, both Anaconda's target him in response
- Silverware ask what the odds are now, the feds still don't respond
- Silverware becomes the mouse while GoatChops turns in and targets the power plant of the disabled Anaconda successfully causing it to explode due to damage.
- Not wanting to be shown up by WSR the Feds close betting and move in to finish off the second Anaconda
- GoatChops and Silverware quit the field 200k richer each.

After repairing, rearming and (most importantly) turning in their bounty vouchers, CDMRs Silverware and GoatChops headed back out, proud citizens of Wolf 906 and prouder still of their status as WolfStar Raiders!

We actually got up to a heap more then what I have written here, so much so it was hard to choose what to write about! I hope you enjoyed this write up and I hope you see you in space with us.

Chapter 3
Spoiler:      SHOW
Silverware wrote:Well, I headed to Wolf 918 to target some Pirates and see what their fleet composition was like.
I was lead to believe that they were an underfunded, undermanned, underequppied outfit.

They are not.

After finally finding and getting in range of a small conflict between the Pirates and the Barons of Wolf 918, I decided to get involved on the side of the barons.
It turns out that the ships on field were only the first wave of the Pirate's fleet. As soon as I "liberated" the first Eagle Pilot from his life, a wave of at least a dozen more ships arrived.
Including Anacondas (Light Frigates) and Vultures (Heavy Assault Corvettes), with me in my Cobra (Light General Purpose Corvette) I was forced to play a game of cat and mouse with the Pirates.
Watching as they systematically explodified the local Baron's forces.

It was at this point that my trusty missile reserves were depleted.

So I decided to employ the age old tactic of the Wolfstar Raiders... I threw all power to engines and boosted the hell out of there.
Unfortunately a Cobra and a Vulture decided that they don't particularly like the Wolfstar Raiders form of religious preaching, and gave chase.

A brief interlude later, and the Cobra was liberated, but so was my shield generator, and a measly 78% of my hull.

With no window to escape into Supercruise, no missiles, and no shields, what else could I do?
I turned head first towards the Vulture, and screamed profanities in every known language, and a few unknown languages, while firing wildly in it's general direction.
It's safe to say that this Pilot was suitably impressed and rewarded me with a clean shot at his drives, a reward I was not going to pass up.

With him tumbling through space, and one of my Beam Lasers complaining of a "Slight Thermal Overload" (sometimes known as a fire) the answer to this problem was obvious...
More lasers.

And that is exactly what I provided him. Before limping off to a nearby station, leaking coolant, fuel, and possibly some liquid spaceship.
However I had survived, and the Wolfstar Raiders' flag has been placed in this system!

Wolf 918, you shall be known as a system to avoid by pirates and those afraid of a little friendly fire.

[News anchor talking]

...the increasingly muddy situation between the Barons of Wolf 918 and the Pirates of Wolf 918 has become seemingly more complex. Reports from trust worthy federal sources have placed members of “The WolfStar Raiders” (or WSR for short) ships at several of the battle sites around the system. WSR are apparently fighting on the side of The Barons of Wolf 918. When asked whether or not Federal Authorities approved of this action by WSR, our sources within the Federation issued the following statement:

“The Federation is founded on freedom of choice; however some freedoms should only be exercised with the greatest of care, so we would encourage WSR to think carefully before engaging in any further battles”

WSR, a bounty hunting organisation that operates out of Wolf 906, have recently become known for their efforts in protecting civilian shipping in Wolf 906 and have earned a good reputation with The Federally aligned Values Party of 906. This has prompted speculation as to whether or not the Values party has employed WSR to fight against The Pirates of Wolf 918, an organisation the Values party has been attacked by several times. We will now cross live to the Values Party head office for an emergency press conference.

[Cuts to in progress press conference, the camera is focused on the spokesman at the podium]

Reporter 1: …true that the Values party has indeed hired WSR to engage in combat operations against the Pirates of 918 in retaliation for pirate attacks on Values party assists in 906?
Spokesman: The Values party has not employed the WSR to engage in any full scale military operations.
Reporter 2: But isn’t true that the Values party has previously paid WSR for, and I quote “anti-piracy operations in both Wolf 906 and 918”?
Spokesman: We have a responsibility to protect our own people and those visiting our system. The WolfStar Raiders have proven themselves an effective ally in this effort and they deserve to be rewarded for their efforts.
Reporter 1: What about the opinion of some within the Federal hierarchy that the WSR are in fact a pirate organisation themselves, one that has only the thinnest veneer of legitimacy. Shouldn’t WSR be outlawed like any other pirate organisation and refused docking rights as is Federal protocol?
Spokesman: (visibly angry) The Values Party of Wolf 906 considers The WolfStar Raiders valued members of our community. They have saved countless lives and proven time and again that we can rely upon them. I think I speak for myself and the rest of 906 when I wish them god speed and a safe return to Wolf 906.

[Spokesman storms out of camera shot, the flashes of cameras and shouted questions follow him out]

Silverware kills the feed, “It seems someone in the Federation does not appreciate our efforts. On the Bright side we have the Values party vote. Although I am not sure how long that will last with them being Fed aligned now.”
GoatChops rocks back in his chair “Valued members of our community… Tell the lads that we are headed back to 906. I want everyone withdrawn from 918 within 48 hours”
“It’s unlike you to bow to the Feds like this, hell you shot at one of them last week!” responded Silverware clearly surprised at Goat’s decision.

GoatChops reaches forward for a data chip sitting on his desk and throws it at Silverware who catches it with a curious look. “I received this news not 10 minutes before you walked in. Long story short, the government of Wolf 896 has just declared a state of emergency and battles between rival government forces are already taking place around the system. Someone is stirring up trouble in the cluster, if… when, this trouble gets to Wolf 906 the WolfStar Raiders will be there to welcome it.”

Silverware pockets the data chip and turns to leave Goats office, pausing at the door he looks back at Goat and says “We fly badly, we fight badly…”
GoatChops smiles as he finishes the motto “…and we make questionable decisions”

=====Transmission Start=====
Effective immediately - All members of WSR are to return to Wolf 906 and recommence anti piracy patrols. It is suspected that the trouble in the local cluster is a result of external forces. We cannot allow the government of Wolf 906 to suffer the same fate.

0530 Zulu (GMT/UTC) is the time we started correct.
I expect another sortie tonight around the same time, once CMDR Goatchops has finished his day job on the station.

And then from 2100 I should be alive and kicking again, after having slept off that sortie, and we will be able to have the first Wolfstar Raiders Weekend Sortie for Profit and Murder (tm pending)!

This is how multiplayer with... sanity-impaired individuals... tends to work Talvieno. :D

Once Josh releases 1.0, and we finish hacking a crude Multiplayer version together, the Wolfstar Raiders will take on Limit Theory. :D

Seeing as Elite Dangerious only allows 4 people per wing, we will have to either have a Mumble/equivelent server setup somewhere. (like on my raspPi)

OR

Fly in groups of 4 only. :/ (Far less fun)
So I am setting up mumble again. :D
