The shaking screen thing - that's a performance issue - you must be a bit too far below 30fps.

In game the performance counter is CTRL + ALT + F8

In the beginning there's nothing going on but your ship and the base, so there's very little happening performance wise. Plus - the game actually runs faster than part 1 - because of the super simple texture files - there's 2-3 texture files (for ships and bases) and they are far less than a mb - combined.

Your chip might not support the shader level or some such - do you know how old it is?

I looked up its stats - its most likely able to support the shader level (I think 3 to get that effect).

Hmm...

27 FPS when nothing is going on is a bit low - on a 2 year old (non integrated video card) it should be 100-200+ (when Vsynch is turned off)

Also turning off the toon+outline effect should just make the game look uglier (the colors less bright, and the outlines gone) - versus transparent.

Perhaps the game uses the integrated card, it's an usual "bug" of video games.

Downloaded and installed the demo, Paul.

No problems with graphics (GTX 970 SLI). It all looks like it does in your videos except it's sharper. I don't like the blue soup and I find the sphere distracting. It reminds me of the feeling I got in the early iterations of Arena Commander where I felt really confined by the walls. I'm using my trackball to manoeuvre and it's a pretty good experience.

You didn't expect three pages of detail from me did you? *chuckle*

The ideas you have for this game are much more to my liking. And I think the ships and stations are an improvement. More ships, more stations, more asteroids, more...well you get the picture. ;)

It's going to be a triumph, Paul, I'm sure of it. :D
I agree... I helped fund it, but upon playing it, it turned out it wasn't my cup of tea... I'm hoping the next one is more sandbox and open, and less combat-centric... I like combat just fine, but it seemed that's all there was to the first one.

Well - most of my games are probably going to be - heavily slanted - towards combat since that's my "definition of cool."

But this time around there is a lot more emphasis on life, exploration and opportunities - speaking of life he's a new civilian mining ship (a variant of a civilian heavy transport ship).

Here's a vid that talks about adding a feature to make it even cooler:

Its a bit long - and if you aren't interested in the "behind the scenes game development" aspect skip to the end for the result:
