Initial Report into the Exterior Surface Composition of Lunar Artefact 2056-09-22:00277A88E
Secret. Clearance Level Required: 9.
Publication Date 2057-04-12
Abstract:
A detailed investigation of the thermal properties and microstructures of Artefact 2056-09-22:00277A88E was performed. Three samples taken from the surface material were subjected to thermal analysis. Each material exhibited a shift in the grain size/density relationship favouring densification, most likely resulting from high speed impact with the lunar surface. Differences in the response of the sample materials are attributed to the differences in the grain boundary mobility. Modulus of rupture and toughness of both microwave and conventionally sintered samples were similar. Following isothermal heating at 13000C, the samples were found to be significantly more resistant than control samples of conventionally available materials. The artefact is composed of an alloy that might be reproducible with minor advancements in current technology but it is extremely unlikely to have been produced with currently available methodologies and practices. These findings have significant implications for the commercial application of reverse engineered methods to produce similar materials.
