Currently drowning Texas and tracking toward Mississippi.
Brace, Baton Rouge, for another round of tropical storm flooding this week?

Yeah... I really hope things get better. One of my friends had to move out because of the flooding. It's terrifying.

Several friends still aren't able to leave their homes. They're among the fortunate in that the water didn't actually flood them out, but all the roads remain blocked.

People are stepping up and helping, though, and that's been good to see.

I'm just waiting on Sky's write-up on this once everything is said and done. He lives in the Houston area and has spoke quite a bit at some of the issues he's been dealing with on this.

He said he was able to go back to his apartment recently, so there's that at least. He's not homeless. :) I'm happy about that. Wish I was close enough to volunteer, because I'd definitely do so.

Hurricane Irma is next - a real brute! Good luck to those in its path.

Not that there is flooding in Louisiana, and an alligator ends up eating the flashdrive with LT on it

Hokey smokes, Bullwinkle!

This Delta pilot must really have wanted to get to Puerto Rico.

He was the last flight into San Juan as Irma, with Cat 5 winds, approached the island.

Their turnaround time, including landing, taxiing, deboarding, moving cargo, refueling, reboarding, and takeoff, was 52 minutes.

And the pilot steered the aircraft directly between the outer rain band and the outer core of the hurricane. It landed safely at JFK a couple of hours ago.

Wow.

I'm surprised they didn't suffer weight distribution issues because of the pilot's colossal cast-iron balls

Although front-loading that much weight probably just added to the plane's stability tbh

That's ridiculously ballsy, but also ridiculously dangerous. Flying a commercial airliner that close to a hurricane is asking for trouble. Very impressive that they managed to pull it off, though!

In my mind, I keep wondering: what in the world was so important that it justified risking the lives of all those passengers -- inbound and outbound -- to land and leave?

Publicity. Just take a look at any one of the articles comparing the landing to a pit stop tire change. I'm sure they didn't think there was any chance of losing the flight. After all, planes have flown through hurricanes before.
