I believe you, but that doesn't change low levels being boring and weak

Good DMs always can make things interesting and fun for lower levels and rebalance higher levels properly if things get out of hand. Game mechanics are there to be used or ignored in the way is best for the party and the fun. Just saying...

Note: my annoyance stems from Baldur's Gate, not real Pen and paper as Saturday was the first time I actually did that

Indeed! Because the event has been spun off into regularish DnD meetings, to start in July. Looking at the current preferences I'll probably end up with a dwarf cleric for the first couple of missions.
(We're gonna do a few things with premade chars to get a feel of things, and then make our own characters)
