Let's say you have a vessel and it can only *hold* 5 mines.... each with a kilometer 'chase' radius.

So you drop a few near your lair (for any unwelcome visitors)

I would put a limit on the scanning idea.
Only allow scanning equipment to work if the target vehicle is not moving.

Imagine how you'd feel if you people were looking over your shoulder all the time?

I think the occasional dev update is sufficient.

My view is that you need not worry about the universe because that is built from the seed. The only thing you need to persist is the asset(s) (and their individual settings/configurations) belonging to the player's characters.

So if you started 10 different characters, and then started playing the game, the other 9 characters would be somewhere in the game?
