Re: The General Unhappiness Thread

backers are somewhat underrepresented here. I'm curious -- not disagreeing, just curious -- why you think this. How are you measuring representation? You don't need to qualify your curiosity. I made no real measurement -- it's common sense. But I see why you're curious. I made a mistake when using ...

Re: The General Unhappiness Thread

Whatever else he decides to do with the news update, I would strongly suggest that he post it to Kickstarter before he does so here. This place is more or less an echo chamber driven by a dedicated few, and backers are somewhat underrepresented here. Yet Josh's true responsibility lies with them. I ...

Re: American Election 2016

As an uninterested observer (i.e. I am not an American citizen) I would rather have a Trump victory than a Clinton one. Not least because I have significant populist leanings myself, but mostly because the argument that Clinton is the lesser evil is a complete illusion. I'm sure it sounds great to w...

Re: Star Citizen

Kotaku UK has posted a lengthy and fantastic article on Star Citizen's development process; I'd say it qualifies for actual journalism. Now there's an assocİation I never thought I'd make. Don't read into the clickbait title; it's very fair.

Re: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

If Victor, or anyone else, is interested in playing the original Deus Ex in 2016, and wouldn't mind an additional level of polish and refinement, there's a strong case to be made for waiting until December 2016 to do so, when the mod GMDX hits version 9.0 with a bunch of improvements. (You can of co...

Re: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

DWMagus' load times video is about in line with what you should expect, Flat. I say "about" because his times are actually somewhat slower than mine, but that's explained by the curious CrystalDiskMark scores. His drive is either a SATA2 drive, or it's connected to a SATA2 port rather than a SATA3, ...

Re: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

I have the same SSD as Flat (only 1TB) and 2 minute loading times definitely seem off. 383MB/s seq reads aren't too bad, but I'd also recommend CrystalDiskMark benchmarking just to make sure -- you should be getting 500+. Note that you simply aren't supposed to be getting speeds like 3768 MB/s on th...

Re: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

stuff on DX politics That seems to be a very reasoanble line of thinking, and I'm in agreement. And it's just about what I meant when I characterized Eidos Montreal as infantile -- the new games do lack the subtlety and the even-handedness found in the first game. The Radio Guy definitely made me t...

Re: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

My approach was similar to yours, Flatfingers, and I finished the game in about 35 hours. And I did a lot of save-scumming and still missed the no-alarm achievement somehow. :( Verdict? 8/10. I'm happy with the time I spared the game, and the core formula still works, and works very well. I spent ab...

Re: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Reviews (and PC port!) are looking good, though general sentiment appears to be "It's more of Human Revolution", which, while perfectly acceptable, carries the slight pang of disappointment when one considers the five years between the two releases. That said - I did pre-order it and I will be playi...
