Even a still image can convey creation or manufacturing, in it's broadest sense. I have a few ideas, but I'm not sure it's my place to mention them.
I really don't want to inhibit your own creativity. I'm sure you'll think of something, you always do.

I can even imagine if you built a trading hub near an asteroid rich area, you'll attract business. At least if you configure the zone to be open to 3rd parties.

I'm in favour of factions levying a toll for use of their highway, personally.
It allows factions & players to get some sort of return on the investment of building it. Perhaps even building new highways in empty systems to attract new businesses.

You could mod asteroids to behave like slow ships... But that would no doubtingly go with a huge performance hit.

With the fast evolution in developing gameplay, I wouldn't be surprised if the November update also hits on the start of December. It's not a given that Josh would automatically start releasing video's every 5 to 6 weeks.

I think freelancer was a good compromise. X:Rebirth was a bit too much for my tastes, but I hear they toned it down. (And there are plenty of mods that change it even more.)

Like Lum, I really hope the spiffy rails won't detract from the surroundings. I wouldn't like being attached to a bright rail, surrounded by bright rails that obfuscate the surrounding area or vistas.

Of course a Stylophone classifies as a musical instrument. It still requires skill and practice to play it well. It was actually one of my favourite instruments as a kid.
