A few things in defense of Infinity. First, their engine looks fantastic. If the screen shots they've released recently are any way to judge, the level of surface detail they are able to render is simply amazing, miles and miles ahead of any other game on the market or in development (that Ive seen)...
Its been a couple weeks since our last collective hit on that dev update crack pipe, and it seams like the forum has started to feel that itch crawling up their spine. Instead of pointless, "Josh is kill" (grill, chill, or -my personal favorite-, krill ) threads, lets see if we can get our space fix...
Even assuming Josh has had some sort of psychotic break and has spent this last month hanging out in a nice padded cell somewhere, open sourcing the code would not be overly useful. The engine itself is NOT the backbone of LT, its the content created with LTSL scripts. Mr. Parnell has spent years of...
Even in the event of an asteroid strike or structure fire (not that unlikely given previous house issues ), Josh has stated he has an offsite backup, so even if the entire state of Tennessee is taken out in a massive earthquake or Godzilla attack, somewhere a copy of LT will survive!
Im pretty sure that Josh is still alive, given that he posted to twitter not long ago. Although there is a very low bus factor, at this point the core engine is like 90% done, and if he were to be hit by a bus, Im sure that the code would go open source. At this point its all just LTSL coding to imp...
It's not working out because these self-imposed schedules are not being met. Seams like it might be to soon to make a statement like that with any certainty. The fact is that we dont know what the goals are, and since Josh hasn't been updating us we dont know if they are being met. Seams like we ju...
So if I am reading this right Josh. I am supposed to be impressed that you are tearing up your body. You are the decider and everything is all sunshine right? I think you are totally missing the point he is trying to make. When I get super deep in a project, I narrow down to exactly the one thing I...
On the one hand, I think we all salivate over new LT information, but on the other, when Josh doesnt post for days on end I know that he is Gettin' 'Er Done. I will admit that sometimes my faith is tested and I think evil thoughts of how he must be slacking, but then I realize that the word slack is...
I'm pretty sure each system has a size equal to very large 64bit number in units of meters If the systems are so large as to allow several planets, or an entire solar system in one contiguous game space, then even at the warp rail speed of 10,000m/s its going to take a very, very long time to get b...
Im not sure if we can even have the Will Planets Orbit discussion until we know more about the geometry of LT-space. For example the "systems" we've seen so far have been entirely local systems around planets. The only inter-system travel system we've seen is a worm-hole, there has been no presence ...
I really like the format so far. It seams like a lot of the pressure is off in terms of showing off the stuff, which shifts the weight over to actually getting stuff working! Using images instead of video is quick, easy, and it conveys just as much info.
LTSL scripting can be looked at by interested parties and perhaps content fed back into development (this one is crossing a line I know but it would still be interesting) YES YES YES PLEASE. Although Im sure I am going to play a bunch of vanilla LT when it launches, Im sure Im not alone in thinking...
