I remember Josh having "retaliation" turned off for one of the video's so NPC's wouldn't attack him (even when he attacked them) so I'm sure that, in the (unlikely) event that this wouldn't a built-in feature it would be very simple to mod in.

I watched the touchdown of Philae on 67P and the recent launch of astronauts to the ISS. Incredibly exciting stuff

I agree too. If a mod is of the same quality as a piece of DLC, why not pay for it? The problem is you need permission of the game devs to ask for money, and the only devs I know of that actually allow that are Valve. The thing that's fun about Minecraft is setting your own goals. Like you say "now we're going to build a house here so we don't have to sleep in a cave", "now we're going to explore trying to find vegetable x for our garden", "now we're going to explore this cave to find y", that kind of stuff.
