Re: Movies!

Any thoughts on the Tomb Raider trailer? I love the game franchise reboot, and this appears to be a live-action translation of that.
I'm OK with the casting.
What I'm worried about based on the trailer is the overall quality of the script, special effects and stunts, and cinematography.

Re: Factorio

[..] my first thought would've been to build a circular track that would move an item into a box every time you passed a certain point, and then just count the items in the box. Oh. That could work. It didn't occur to me. :( Indeed, an indefinite rail loop (ie. a train hamster wheel that will keep ...

Re: No Man's Sky

Patch 1.37 at long last addressed my mouse & keyboard cockpit look gripe. Because it's been added! And it sounds like mouse-controlled flight is going to feel a lot better, as it's now properly cursor based and no longer attempting to emulate thumb-stick input. Also supposedly freighters have been m...

Re: Factorio

With the benefit of hindsight, I think that generating a minimum height ribbon world would have been a smart opening move for the project. :ghost: Today's efforts have been just that. Archived the 353 MB map and made a new one with infinite x (*cough*2millionisnotflippininfinitebutsure*cough*) and ...

Re: Factorio

Yesterday in a test map, which my computer loathes, I reached the edge. https://wiki.factorio.com/World_generator The map size is limited to 2000 x 2000 kilometers (a quadrant with 2,000,000 tiles side-length, an area of 4,000,000,000,000 quadrant-tiles). This is between the size of India and Austra...

Re: Random

Here's a Youtube video that I just watched found extremely chilling: How Big do Tornadoes Get? When I was a kid, I was very terrified of tornadoes. I remember becoming hysterical and inconsolable a few times when I saw the sky turn green, which I had learned was a sign of a possible tornado. A frien...

Re: 9/11

3? 7? 1?! Y'all make me feel old and grey. :ghost: I was just beginning to get settled into high school. I'd never had a locker or known the combination to a lock before. It felt so ..responsible. Big Time. The Real World at last. Unhh nostalgia sucker-punch. English teacher cancelled class. Took us...

Re: 9/11

Duke, if you lost family and/or friends in 2001, I'm embarrassed on behalf of my esteemed fellow forumites who took this thread to be troll-bait. Thousands of people died, many of them in circumstances of extreme fear and confusion and horror, and this is really very sad to remember. I expect it sho...

Re: No Man's Sky

So you never left the first solar system cuz all the planets looked the same? What, all 3 or 4 planets? 18 Quintillion star systems to visit, but because the planets in 1 solar system looked similiar, you quit. ok then... ehh.. I'm sympathetic with Jan here. No doubt his disillusionment was influen...

Re: Things That Made You Happy Today

Discovering Malukah's beautiful Auld Lang Syne , indirectly thanks to outlander's post above. Wish I could sing this tune this well; it's one of my favourites. Also I just watched The Space Between Us (starring Asa Butterfield), which is a shamelessly melodramatic romance glamourizing the 'l...

Re: No Man's Sky

Yep, it's good. My ship got buffed. :P Having powered through considerably more story, I'm happy with it. Some good moments in there. Not sure what's left, since this last bit acted like a climax but didn't roll any credits. My Gek vocabulary is getting pretty extensive (470-something words), so I c...

Re: No Man's Sky

Oh, wow! patch 1.35 is so good! At least the notes are. Haven't tested it quite yet. Highlights: Ship handling is procedurally unique from ship to ship, weighted by ship type and class (quality rating) Crafting multiple items at once; crafting more of an item on top of an existing stack Quick toggle...
